Exploring Western Australia

Western Australia is one of the oldest lands on Earth, and boast of an Aboriginal history that dates back to more than 40,000 years ago. With such a rich heritage background, it’s no wonder that there’s so much to do there, whether you’re going on a family holiday, a personal retreat or an aorous honeymoon with your significant others.

Unlike the rest of the Australian states, Western Australia was colonized as a free settlement and not a penal colony like Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia. This is reflected in the diversity of its farming and agriculture. Tens of thousand of years before the European settlement, Aboriginal people were already roaming the Australian landscape, living in harmony with Nature.

Visiting Western Australia should include interesting activities like 4WD sand dune adventure or visit Caversham Wildlife Park where you can feed kangaroos and koalas. A visit to Margaret River, Western Australia finest wine region, is a must. Make a trip to Wave Rock, one of Australia natural wonders. From the activities on the land, you can venture to the sea. Visit Rockingham Wild Encouters for a close encouter with cute marine life. Or, you can stroll along the fine sandy beach at Cottlesloe Beach.

There are plentiful of choices of accomodation in Western Australia. If you are bored of staying in hotels or motels, why not try farm stay with the locals. You can experience the fun of collecting chicken eggs in early morning and milking cows.

Perhaps, you may want to stroll along the streets of Fremantle to shop at the fleamarket. Things can be very cheap if are good are bargaining.

Honeymooning in New Zealand

Aotearoa means “Land of the Long White Cloud” is the name given to New Zealand by the Maori. New Zealand is one of the most attractive places for vacation. New Zealand is known for its natural beauty with its numerous lakes, mountains and scenic landscapes for visitors to relax and enjoy them. The beauty of New Zealand is nicely portrayed in the Lord of The Ring film trilogy. With Lord of The Ring film trilogy, New Zealand is also known as the Home of Middle Earth.

I had my honeymoon in New Zealand many years ago and the memories of the place are still fresh in my mind.

I flew to New Zealand via Singapore on Air New Zealand to Christchurch. Upon arrival, the hotel agent was already waiting for me at the airport. From there, we checked into one of the hotels in Christchurch.

We had only 1 day to spend in Christchurch. We decided on visiting the Botanical Garden, International Antarctic Center and Christchurch Art Gallery and Art Center of Christchurch. I liked Antarctic Center very much as it showcased the history of expeditions to Antarctica.

Sperm Whale New ZealandThe next day we took a train to Kaikoura for whale watching. The journey passed through the beautiful New Zealand Alps. Kaikoura is famous for it’s sperm whale which can be seen very close to the shore the whole year round. After that, we are back to Christchurch.

The following day, we took a long bus journey to Queenstown, the adventure city of the world. The journey passed through many small quaint towns where the bus stopped for us to have tea. Along the way, we passed by Lake Tekapo and stopped over at the famous Church of The Good Shepherd for some photos. Then, we continued the journey to Mount Cook resort for lunch.

From Mount Cook, the journey took us passed Omarama, Lindis Pass and Cromwell before reaching Queenstown.

After checking into our hotel, it’s was time for adventure. I tried jet boat at Kuwarau River and white water rafting. But, not bungy jumping off the Kuwarau Bridge

From Queenstown, we headed for Te Anau and then, proceeded to Milford Sound for a day cruise to enjoy the scenic views at the sound. When I was in Te Anau, I learned about the famous Milford Walk which was supposedly to be one of the best hiking routes in the world. We spend a night at Te Anau,

The next day, we headed for Dunedin which was the most Edwardian and Victorian city in the southern hemisphere. Since we only had one afternoon in Dunedin, we decided to just visit the old historic Olveston house. We chose this house because we both like antique furniture and love to see nice houses. After that, it was just strolling around Dunedin visiting the Otago University and around the city center.

From Dunedin, we took a flight to Wellington. Upon arriving, we checked into one of the hotels in Wellington and we decided to take a stroll around the city center as it was a Sunday. The next day, we visited Te Papa National Museum and took the cable car up to the Botanical Garden. The cable car will pass the Kelburn Garden and Victoria University before reaching the peak where the Botanical Garden is.

The next day, we took a flight to Auckland, the City of Sail, where we planned to take an evening dinner cruise. We checked into one of the hotels in Auckland and proceeded to visit the Auckland Sky Tower which offered a breath taking view of Auckland and its surrounding areas. The Sky Tower is the tallest tower in the southern hemisphere.

In the evening, we joined a dinner cruise on a yacht that sailed in the Bay of Auckland.

The next day, it was time to say ‘Kia Ora’ to New Zealand. We flew off from Auckland airport in the afternoon and reached home the following day.

Eventhough this was a very short and rush honeymoon vacation, we are determined to return for the Milford Walk on day.

Maldives and it’s underwater beauty

One of the many island states that I have wanted to visit is Maldives. Maldives is so near to where I am and yet I have traveled to other further islands like Mauritius and Hawaii.

MaldivesMaldives is famed for its underwater beauty with its sun, sand and sea. And nothing else. Underwater life around the islands of Maldives is abundant and beautiful. Water is crystal clear and visibility can reach up to 50m at certain location. Maldives is also a perfect get away place for couples to have a romantic vacation.

Maldives covers an area of 90,000 km but 99% of it is covered by sea. Maldives has 1190 islands which are spread among its 26 atolls. There are no more than 200 islands which are inhibited. Tourist resorts took up another 87 islands. These islands are exclusively for the resorts only.

Scuba diving, being one of my hobbies, is one of the main activities in Maldives that attract my attention. I want to spend many fun-filled hours in the sea during the day and evening watching sunset in the horizon. It’s going to be a place where I can spend time reading my favorite novels.

I plan to stay at the Fihalhohi Tourist resort, which is about 90 minutes away from Male by speed boat. Fihalhohi is one of the larger islands in Maldives. By size, it may look very small. It’s only 450 meters by 270 meters.

I just can’t wait to go diving in Maldives.
